Sunbird
How to Make a Published Calendar in Sunbird
- In the main menu select: File -> New Calendar
- Select 'On the Network'
- Select 'iCalendar (ICS)'
- In Location type, for example, 'http://thacher.us/James/Calendars/Eraseme.ics'.
- Name it whatever you like. Select one of your most favorite colors.
- If you publish to a location for which you don't have a memorized
password, it will prompt you. Enter your username and password and
allow Password Manager to remember it for your convenience.
- If you do not have a password memorized in the password manager but it doesn't ask you for a password, you probably mistyped the URL in Step 5. You will know that this is the case if you have errors creating items.
- If you have a password memorized for the online folder (e.g. 'http://thacher.us/James/Calendars' in the example in Step 5) then it won't ask you for a password.
- Click 'Finish'.
- Attempt to add a new item (Event or Task):
- Select the "Calendars" tab in the upper-left of Sunbird under the "New Event" button.
- Click the newly created calendar.
- Add an item ("New Event" or "New Task") and make sure the "Calendar" pull-down is the newly created calendar.
- If you get this message: "There has been an error reading data for calendar: Eraseme. It has been placed in read-only mode, since changes to this calendar will likely result in data-loss. You may change this setting by choosing 'Edit Calendar'.", then its likely that you previously had a calendar with the same name you put in Step 5. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) Sunbird does not erase the remote copies of calendars when they are deleted from Sunbird. You should either give the calendar file (e.g. 'Eraseme.ics') a new name (e.g. 'Erasethis.ics'), or get a system administrator for the remote computer to remove the old file for you before you can create the new one.
