Add CUPS Printer
This adds a raw CUPS printer to your printer choices.
Talk to your favorite sysadmin and get him or her to configure a printer to be shared as a CUPS printer. The following works at my place of employment, so I know it can be done.
- Open CUPS: http://127.0.0.1:631
- Click "Printers"
- Scroll all the way down, click "Add Printer"
- Enter administrator name and password if asked.
- Enter the appropriate info, e.g.:
- Name: "lj1"
- Location: "Boyer 205"
- Description: "Xerox Phaser 4500 - lj1"
- Click "Continue"
- Device: "AppSocket/HP JetDirect"
- Click "Continue"
- Device URI: "socket://lj1.mbi.ucla.edu
- Click "Continue"
- Make: "Raw"
- Click "Continue"
- Model: "Raw Queue (en)"
- Click "Continue"
- Click on the name of the printer where it says "Printer lj1 has been added successfully" (yours will say whatever you entered inĀ Step 5A above)
- Click "Print Test Page" to make sure it worked
- Open Printer Setup Utility under /Applications/Utilities
- Select the newly added printer from the Printer List
- Click "Show Info" from the Tool Bar (or Printers -> Show Info) from the Menu
